Thank you for your interest in a custom portrait! Below are a few important things to know about the process. When you're ready, send me your reference photos to hello@cursedcarp.com and fill out a contact form.

Photo Guidelines

I prefer to have at least 3 pictures to use for reference. Depending on the lighting or the angle a picture might better capture the details such as eye color and skin or fur detail. My goal is to make the portrait as lifelike as possible so I will communicate with you if there are any problems with the images. The best way to test your image is to simply zoom in and see the detail but I am always happy to provide feedback too.

In this first example modeled by Bruce and Ellie we have a low quality image (where they are sitting on the fur carpet). The photo itself is cute and professional but the image is small resulting in blurry pixelization when I zoom in. I could use this photo, but it would force me to fill in the blanks for texture and color with my imagination. The photo at the bottom is much sharper.

Here is an example of mixed quality images being combined into one. We have two high quality images but then we used a printed memorial image for the grandfather in the center. This caused some of the image to be left to my imagination to fill in. I sourced other images to create his shirt to give a more formal vibe as well as finding another image of the necklace he used to wear. Overall this led to more hours going into this portrait but it is possible to put our heads together and create a piece like this.

In this next example we have a low quality image on the top. You can hardly see any texture or dimension in her body. She looks like a white loaf of bread. But in the bottom image you can see the texture of her fur, shadows, all her wonderful chunky rolls.

Timelines

Please let me know right away if you have any kind of deadline you are trying to meet such as a birthday or a wedding, no matter how far out it may be. At this time I do not have estimates on completion as I work on these while also working full time and this level of detail can take weeks if not months to complete. Digital portraits take significantly longer than wood burned portraits so if you’re looking for a faster turnaround then wood burning would be my recommendation.

Final Product

For Digital Portraits; when the portrait is complete I will send you a folder with a timelapse video of the creation process, plus your digital portrait in PNG and PDF Print format with a few different background colors you can use for your own printing needs. Included in the price is a 16”x20” printed product of the digital art. Your choices for this printed product include but are not limited to a traditional wrapped canvas, a framed poster print, a tapestry, and more. If you have something in mind at the start please let me know and I will check with my vendors on what options we have. As I complete your portrait we can go over these options again too.

If you ordered a Wood Burning then your final product will be sprayed with a UV protectant coating, the back will have a sawtooth hanger attached, and it will then be carefully wrapped to ship. The spray takes several days to cure so that the wrap does not create any indentations on the surface and this can add to the delivery timeline.

Pricing

Digital Portrait pricing is based on headcount as well as any complex additions such as changing the clothing or creating a new background. A single individual (pet or person) is $900. Adding additional heads increases the price. Please reach out to me for a custom price.

This artwork is digital so the file size can be applied to any number of printed products, therefore there is no change in price based on size. I put the same amount of work into each portrait, regardless of size. Meaning a print of a 5x7 had the same amount of work and detail put into it as a 26x30.

There is a 50% nonrefundable deposit up front then the other 50% is collected at the time of completion before I send the digital file and ship the physical product. If any printed products are requested after the initial 16x20 product is shipped then those will be priced individually.

Wood Burned Portraits have variability in the pricing because they are not "one size fits all". Large canvases will take significantly more time to complete than small canvases. Though I put as much detail as I can into the little ones too, they are faster to complete just in their nature of being more compact. Please reach out if you have any questions on pricing or reference our wood burned portrait product page.

Cancellations

These portraits are one of a kind and cannot be sold to any other individual. Therefore the deposit for these are non-refundable. If I have already started on your portrait with the first deposit and you decide to cancel, please let me know immediately so that I don't finalize the portrait. If I complete the portrait and was not notified that you needed to cancel then the second and final 50% payment is still required. However, if you contact me as early as possible, depending on the amount of work that has been done we can discuss an option regarding percentage of work done as it relates to the rest of the payment. This is up to my discretion.

I look forward to working with you on your portrait! I spend hours and hours of work on these portraits and pour so much love and energy into them. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or to simply start the process at hello@cursedcarp.com!
